Strain Spotlight: Sour Diesel

BY MARIE LODI

The Sour Diesel Cannabis Strain

If Sour Diesel could have a theme song, it would probably be Kanye West’s “Famous,” thanks to the strain’s world-renowned reputation. The sativa-dominant hybrid gets its traits from parent strains Chemdawg and Superskunk, inducing an energetic, psychedelic high. “Sour D” is an award-winning, longtime favorite of cannabis devotees, for good reason.

The look, smell, and feel of Sour Diesel

Sour Diesel doesn’t get its name from the gas-powered energy it brings but from its diesel-like scent. Due to the presence of the terpenes myrcene and limonene, it has notes of lemon zest, which bring on its tart, citrus-like taste. Along with its dense, light green buds and orange pistils, Sour Diesel definitely isn’t a subtle strain.

The effects of Sour Diesel

With a high-THC content, usually, around 20% or higher, Sour D’s sativa-leaning potency is good for an elevated, euphoric high that will boost your mood and energy level if you’re feeling out of it or sluggish. It’s a good daytime strain, so reach for this when you’re working on a creative project and need a little inspiring buzz. Conversely, don’t reach for it if you want something to chill you out and help you sleep.
