A Handy Explainer of All the Strains We Sell in Florida

BY ANDREW NGUYEN

Medical cannabis legalized in Florida back in 2016, but consuming flower wasn’t allowed until 2019. And despite legalization, there were still waiting lists and sold-out inventory. Thankfully, that’s changed and now you can count on MedMen for a steady supply of premium cannabis.

Before we get into what flower is available, it’s totally okay to admit if you’re a novice. Don’t let words like cannabinoids or terpenes intimidate you from diving in and fully reaping the therapeutic benefits of cannabis. Once you get to know what they mean, you can find the right strain for you.

First, cannabinoids are chemical compounds (you’ve probably already heard of two of them: THC and CBD) that may have therapeutic effects on pain, depression, nausea, anxiety, and inflammation. THC is psychoactive while CBD is not. There are others but those are the main ones that get a lot of attention.

Terpenes are chemical compounds that give cannabis its distinctive smell and taste: Think of it as the same as tasting notes in fine wine or essential oils. While they aren’t responsible for you feeling high, they have a variety of possible mental and physical benefits, from fighting pain to relieving stress.

Below is a list we’ve compiled of the strains offered at MedMen dispensaries throughout Florida. For more information on each terpene effect, refer to our Beginner’s Guide to Terpenes but here’s a quick cheat sheet:

Limonene: Like its name implies, it smells citrusy like a lemon.

Pinene: This one’s easy to remember: it smells like a pine forest.

Myrcene: Love an IPA? Then you’ll be familiar with this terpene, it smells like earthy, like hops.

Caryophyllene: This one’s peppery or clove-like.

Linalool: If you love lavender, you’ll love the smell of linalool.

Farnesene: This isn’t one of the major terpenes but you’ll find them in some of our Florida strains. It smells like green apples.

Cymene: This is another minor terpene you’ll see in some our Florida strains and it’s found also in thyme and cumin.

Humulene: This is another minor terpene you’ll see in some of our Florida strains. It has an earthy smell and is commonly found in hops, ginger, and ginseng.
